Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway 2019-2020

The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway is one of the oldest and longest narrow gauge Railways in England, known affectionately as La’al Ratty meaning “Little Railway” in olde Cumbrian dialect.Take in the stunning scenery on a 40 minute journey, in one of our open, half- open or closed carriages - perfect whatever the weather. We have a fleet of five heritage steam engines that will transport you from the coastline at Ravenglass, to the foot of the Scafell mountain range at Dalegarth for Boot. Our oldest engine, River Irt, turns 125 this year and can still be seen out on the tracks regularly. Ravenglass is the only coastal village in UNESCOWorld Heritage site, the Lake District National Park and is also located within the Frontiers of the Roman Empire, Hadrian’sWallWorld Heritage site. GREAT DAYS OUT, ALL YEAR ROUND! Once you have travelled on the tracks, why not relax with some lovely homemade food from either of our station cafés and check in online with our freeWi-Fi. If you fancy something different, grab a coffee and a map and head out on one of the many fantastic walks surrounding the Railway. The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway is a great day out for the whole family with a jam packed events calendar for 2019, including Paw Patrol™, Driver for a Fiver and our Big Birthday Gala.
