Stramongate School - Prospectus

A Message from the Head Teacher, Firstly, thank you for considering Stramongate School for your child. We hope that you find this prospectus informative and it provides a sense of what it is like to be a part of our Stramongate family! Together with my talented and highly committed staff, I look forward to working with you to ensure that your child’s learning really is ‘fun at Stramongate’. It is our most passionate belief that if your child is enjoying their time in School then they will learn and thrive. At Stramongate we place each child, their welfare and learning, at the centre of our educational thinking and endeavour to cater for the individual needs of our pupils. We aim to challenge and support children to do their best – both socially and academically – and to provide as many opportunities to take part in the full life of the School including: sporting events for all, extension lessons with local secondary schools, numerous after-school activity clubs such as art club and sports clubs, and participation in various community music events. In order to achieve our Vision and your own aspirations for your child’s future, we believe in the importance of close communication between Home and School - there are many ways in which you can help and encourage your child and we will support you by regularly updating you on important next steps in your child’s development. For those beginning School, further information will be available during induction days that are organised prior to children entering one of our Reception Classes. Stramongate is an academy primary school for children from the ages of four to eleven, with approximately three hundred and forty pupils on roll, with the potential to admit up to sixty children each year into Reception. We also provide on-site nursery provision with a nursery breakfast club starting at 8am, as well as ‘wrap- around’ care facilities for children in the main school, 8am- 6pm. The School is managed through its Governing Board, which meets at least once a term. Working with myself, the Board uses a structure of committees to ensure effective planning, monitoring and evaluation of standards with the aim of meeting our shared “Vision” for our School. If you would like to take on a more active role in School through the Governing Board, The Friends (Parent Teacher Association) or by volunteering in class or supporting visits, we would be delighted – typically, parents help children with reading, technology, sport and a whole host of other activities. Please ask your child’s teacher for any further details. Stramongate School has provided high quality educational opportunities for the children of Kendal for over 300 years and staff, parents and children together work hard to maintain our special place in the heart of our wider community. We look forward to working with you towards fulfilling your child’s potential and preparing them for the next step in their schooling. Stramongate School Welcome to ” ...a truly fantastic place for our children to learn and grow; with wonderful and dedicated individuals who make learning fun. Year 4 & Year 6 Parent
